Laptop Batteries – Safety Tips, Advice and Reference Guide

The Laptop is the wonderful creation of science. Before the Laptop was the desktop computer and Laptop has replaced it. The main reason is because of its wireless features, which are available because of Laptop batteries. Laptops can be carried anywhere because of its wireless features and batteries help make this possible, so they are essential in a Laptop.

Laptop Batteries

Laptops use too much battery power from its battery capacity. This happens because these batteries must be small and lightweight so that they can be easily fitted in the laptop. Normally laptop battery last for ninety minutes. This is a major problem because laptops are meant to provide service even on the road or when moving. Using heavier and larger sized batteries can solve this problem. One more factor that affects the performance of a battery is the temperature inside the laptop. As temperature goes high laptop has to turn on its processor fan to bring temperature to normal. Battery loses half of its power when working because of the temperature in the laptop that can reach the 45°C mark. This happens because of the cell oxidation that takes place inside the battery. Cell oxidation is an irreversible process that is detrimental to the lifespan of a laptop battery.

Lithium ion batteries are well suited for those who switch from a fixed power source to a battery on a regular basis. On the other hand, nickel based batteries are useful for those who prefer using the battery as a primary source for the laptop. And now laptop battery can last up to 40 hours, yes research at Stanford Tech to develop hi-tech lithium ion battery for long life working. The new battery uses a advance technology – silicon anodes in the form of nanowires for charging. This technology was earlier abandoned as the silicon expands up to 400 times when charged, exploding the battery in the process. Using silicon in the form of nanowires eliminates this danger.

Three Kinds of Laptop Batteries :-

  1. Nickel Cadmium batteries
  2. Nickel Metal Hydride batteries
  3. Lithium Ion batteries

Among the 3 kinds of batteries, the Lithium Ion is the one used in the latest Laptop models. Although the most expensive but it is the most efficient, reliable and lighter too.

Following are Precautionary Measures to Save Laptop Batteries:-

  • Laptop batteries should be charged only when they fall below 80% in its capacity.
  • While charging the battery, the Laptop should be turned off when possible. If kept on, the batteries won't acquire the required charging power.
  • Leaving a Laptop in a car that is parked in the sun will result in battery damage so this situation must be avoided.
  • Using the Laptop in a cool room will result in increase in the lifespan of the battery.

The mobility of Laptop depends heavily on the batteries. Spare Laptop batteries enable people to work for long hours on flights or in remote places where power connections are either unavailable or hard to come by. When one buys a laptop, buying a spare battery also makes lot of sense because Laptops use much battery power when hard drives and CD drives etc are used. Mostly when we work on laptops, we listen to songs etc, use hard disks to access large files and so the battery usage is far more so spare batteries are very useful and also not so expensive.

Laptop batteries are very important accessory and must be bought after due care and research
